Editorial Policy

Last updated: February 27, 2026

This policy explains how The Var Verdict creates, reviews, and updates content to keep it accurate, respectful, and trustworthy.

1) What we publish

  • Incident analysis (VAR decisions, penalties, red cards, offsides, handball, etc.)
  • Rules explainers (based on IFAB Laws of the Game)
  • Referee profiles (publicly available information only)
  • Football news (transfers, league news, official updates)

2) Opinion vs fact

  • Facts are sourced from official documents and reputable reporting.
  • Opinions are clearly framed as interpretation (“in our view”, “appears”, “likely”, “unclear”).

3) Sourcing standards

We prioritize sources in this order:

  1. Official: IFAB Laws, league/federation statements, official match reports (when public)
  2. Reputable media: established outlets with editorial standards
  3. Secondary sources: used cautiously and never as the only support for major claims

4) Respectful language & safety

We focus on decisions and rules — not personal attacks. We do not publish hate, harassment, or defamatory claims.
We avoid accusations like “corruption” or “match-fixing” unless confirmed by credible, official reporting.

5) Updates

If new information changes the context of a story, we update the article and add a note describing what changed.
