Deniz Aytekin is a German football referee born in Nuremberg, Germany on 21 July 1978. He made his Bundesliga debut on 27 September 2008. He has been FIFA-listed since 2011. Aytekin is among the most prominent German referees of his generation and previously held UEFA elite status. He is part of the current Bundesliga officiating pool and is regularly relevant for pre-match analysis, appointment previews and VAR-focused discussion.
In the 2025/26 Bundesliga season, Aytekin has officiated 8 league matches, averaging 21.38 fouls, 0.63 penalties, 3.25 yellow cards and 0.50 red cards per game. Those numbers point to a strict and card-heavy profile, with a noticeable tendency to award penalties, and one of the higher red-card rates in the league sample. For The VAR Verdict, that statistical snapshot helps readers understand the disciplinary threshold and general tone he has shown this season.
