Paul Tierney is an English football referee born in Wigan, Greater Manchester, England on 25 December 1980. He made his Premier League debut on 30 August 2014. He has been FIFA-listed since 2018. Tierney is an experienced Premier League referee who also handled international appointments during his FIFA-listed years. He is part of the current Premier League officiating pool and is regularly relevant for pre-match analysis, appointment previews and VAR-focused discussion.
In the 2025/26 Premier League season, Tierney has officiated 6 league matches, averaging 18.67 fouls, 0.17 penalties, 3.83 yellow cards and 0.00 red cards per game. Those numbers point to a balanced but firm profile, with a comparatively lighter whistle in open play, and no red cards in his Premier League sample so far. For The VAR Verdict, that statistical snapshot helps readers understand the disciplinary threshold and general tone he has shown this season.
