Tobias Welz is a German football referee born in Wiesbaden, Germany on 11 July 1977. He made his Bundesliga debut on 28 August 2010. He has been FIFA-listed since 2013. Welz served as a FIFA referee between 2013 and 2019 and remains one of the Bundesliga's most recognizable officials. He is part of the current Bundesliga officiating pool and is regularly relevant for pre-match analysis, appointment previews and VAR-focused discussion.
In the 2025/26 Bundesliga season, Welz has officiated 10 league matches, averaging 23.90 fouls, 0.20 penalties, 5.10 yellow cards and 0.10 red cards per game. Those numbers point to a strict and card-heavy profile, with heavy yellow-card output. For The VAR Verdict, that statistical snapshot helps readers understand the disciplinary threshold and general tone he has shown this season.
