Miguel Sesma Espinosa is a Spanish football referee born in Logroño (La Rioja), Spain on 31 January 1995. He made his La Liga debut on 16 August 2025. He is part of the current top-flight refereeing pool in Spain and is regularly relevant for pre-match analysis, appointment previews and VAR-focused discussion.
In the 2025/26 La Liga season, Sesma Espinosa has officiated 14 league matches, averaging 27.71 fouls, 0.21 penalties, 2.71 yellow cards and 0.00 red cards per game. Those numbers point to a more measured and lower-card profile, with a high foul count and frequent stoppages, a relatively restrained yellow-card average, and no red cards in his league sample so far. For The VAR Verdict, that statistical snapshot helps readers understand the disciplinary threshold and general tone he has shown this season.
